Datos básicos

The aim of the first part of the lesson is to raise awareness about the problems concerning access to water and sanitation.

The second part of the day begins with an introduction to the challenges that faces water management in development projects. There will be a more detailed discussion about the supply problem. Water supply opportunities will be explored in the context of development cooperation. Similarly, the different technologies available will be reviewed with greater detail on the design of water distribution networks.

At the end of the lesson we will study different important issues needed to design a water supply system: water needs, water demand, population study and topographic information.

Ponentes
Carlos Sarmiento

Carlos is a civil engineer and works in Canal de Isabel II since 2008, first as project manager and nowadays as construction manager, designing and building all kind of hydraulic projects such as pipes, tanks, treatment plants and pumping stations.

Since 2005 participates in water and sanitation projects in the field of development cooperation with various organizations. Currently a member of the volunteer branch Canal Voluntarios where he actively participates in water and sanitation projects in non developed countries.

He also teaches technical courses about water and sanitation in different institutions: Universidad de Alcalá, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Canal de Isabel II, Colegio de Caminos, Canales y Puertos and others.

In 2014, he started to collaborate with EOI as a teacher of Water and Cooperation, an optional subject at the Environment and Energy Master Area.
