This session focusses on the state of biodiversity as key indicator of human footprint and outlines the key issues on cause-and-effect relationships between biodiversity loss, human pressure and ecological footprint.

A comprehensive identification of main threats and pressures on natural resources like water, soil and biodiversity is carried out. The session is also linked to concepts like carrying capacity, regeneration rate, resilience, ecological corridors, reserve areas, carbon cycle, hydrological cycle, viable population, habitat fragmentation and levels of ecological organization, between others.

Félix Romero Cañizares

Félix is an expert in natural resource management and corporate social responsibility. He has broad experience in project and organizational management within Europe, Central Africa and Latin America.

Félix has a BS in Environmental Science, a BS in Forestry, a MSc in Foreign Businesses and International Relations and a MSc in International Development Aid and NGO management.

He counts with 17 years of professional experience playing a relevant role in the development and promotion of sustainaible forest management and forestry certification, and more specifically of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).

Formerly Regional Director for Europe at FSC International (2012-2014), Félix works today as a Key Account Manager at FSC International being in charge of the relation with multinationals and with an specific role in market development in Eastern Europe.

Before moving to FSC International, he has been Head of Forest Programme at WWF Spain (2002-2012), Chairman of FSC Spain (2010-2012), teacher of forestry and forest manager (1998-2002).

Since May 2014, Félix is also a member of the Town Hall of Yeles (Toledo).

In 2010, he started to collaborate with EOI as a teacher at the International Master on Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility (IMSD) in Madrid.
