I’m going to talk about the most dynamic city in the world.

With 24 million people, Shanghai is the most populated city in China, and one of the largest cities in the world. Nowadays, Shanghai is an exciting metropolis that never stops transforming. It is not only China’s dream come true, it sets the rhythm of the rest of the world. What do you should visit in this city?

 

 

The Bund:

Malecon is one of the most emblematic areas of the city. There are innumerable representative buildings heritage of the colonial era that invites to a pleasant walk along the Huangpu River.

In addition, from this bank we will have a perfect view of Pudong, the financial district, with its famous skyline full of skyscrapers. Do not miss this area at night, the whole show of lights and colours.

Pudong:

The financial district, the Pudong business area has been built for the past 25 years, and is now one of the world’s most important financial centers. Within the many skyscrapers that are part of this area, the most important buildings are:

– Shanghai Tower: the second largest construction in the world, with 632m height and 128 floors.

– Shanghai World Financial Center: in ninth place, with 492m and 101 floors.

– Jin Mao Tower: built in 1999 with 421m height.

– Oriental Pearl Tower: the television tower has 468m of height, it was the tallest structure in China between 1994-2007, when it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center

Nanjing Road:

Shanghai’s Nanjing Road is the world’s largest commercial avenue. It is located in the center of the city and it is a bustling pedestrian zone of large buildings and lights everywhere.

The road is full of shopping malls and luxury shops (Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Gucci …), but also has plenty of restaurants and cafes.

Yuyuan Garden:

Another essential classic of the city. Built during the Ming Dynasty in the 16th century in the image and likeness of imperial gardens.

Today is a haven of tranquillity in the middle of the city full of tourists at any time of day. In the vicinity, there are small shops where you can practice the art of bargaining.

Xintiandi:

Xintiandi is a pleasant neighbourhood formed by old typical Chinese houses (Shikumen) that were restored to house shops, restaurants and cafes.

It is a highly-recommended area, full of pleasant alleyways and offering the multitude of international restaurants in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere.

Tianzifang:

Tianzifang is a former residential area located in the French Concession area, which also has become an enclave known for its small craft shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants.

The architecture of Tianzifang bears a strong resemblance to that of the Xintiandi neighbourhood, also formed by Shikumen.
