PV GLOBAL MARKET FORECASTS

According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) Europe has more cumulative installed capacity than the rest of continents, we are talking about 70 GW just in 2012, which represents 70% of total world´s cumulative PV capacity. Then we have China (Zhōng guó) with a big notorious difference of almost 61 GW (8.3 GW) but this is about to change. Other regions like Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia and Latin America are getting prepared in terms of technology and high specialization of human resources for a new target of renewable energy utilization, but besides that, it happens that this regions are located in the zones with more solar energy potential of the planet which means that this fortunate countries will reach unimaginable numbers in manufacturing and installed capacity.

Moreover, China and Japan are getting in the top of market activity. It was thought of China that this country couldn´t make it for its ambitious target of 8 GW for rooftop solar projects in 2014 but instead of that, China decided to change this target (without neglecting the rooftop solar projects), now they are more interested in ground mount projects so the forecast according to IHS for this year is: 4.8 GW of rooftop projects and 8 GW of ground mounted for a total of almost 13 GW by the end of 2014.

The Japan market of PV technology has growth impressively in four months from 432 MW to 2.24 GW in 2012, additionally the utility scale solar raised from 324 MW to 2.34 GW.

After 18 months when feed in tariff (FIT) program was introduced, total shipments increased from 3 GW to 7.67 GW with Japanese made panels, even the amount of panels exported (595 MW) fell to 171 MW because the country started to consume most of its solar production, but also it´s been said that the reduction in Japan’s FIT will cause the residential market to decline, however maybe it hardly impact on the good results of the lasts years.
