The sound of Seattle

Last weekend, six classmates and me went on a road trip from Portland (Oregon) to Seattle (Washington).

We were staying in Portland since the EOI had offered us the opportunity to spend two weeks there attending some lessons on sustainability and visiting a number of big companies, such as Columbia or Boeing.

As we had a rented van we made the most of it by driving north to the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix.

Talking about music, Seattle is known for indie and principally grunge rock (also referred to as the Seattle sound) represented by groups as Nirvana and Pearl Jam (I love their music). The legendary Nirvana’s singer was found dead in his apartment in Seattle, at the age of 27.

As soon as we arrived in the hotel we realized that we were seven people and were have given two double rooms having two single beds each one. The fact was, according to the receptionist, they didn’t have double rooms with two beds in the USA. You can imagine how close to each other we had to sleep, it was quite funny.

We visited the Space Needle, probably the most famous symbol of Seattle, appearing in every postcard or photograph of the city. It is a tower located at the Seattle Center having a height of 184m. From the top you can enjoy not only an incredible view of the city, but also a number of mountains covered with snow. Visitors can have an unforgettable meal at the rotating SkyCity restaurant.

Apart from the Space Needle, I really enjoyed going round the city, it has something cool. I loved the Pike Place Market: it is a public market founded in 1907, a place where local farmers and fishmongers sell their products, a place where the customer can meet the producer and be sure everything is fresh: seafood, salmon, meat, fruit…

Let’s listen to the Seattle sound!
