Second week in Portland
This week I saw more sustainable companies, the Monday we went to SERA architects that are a studio of efficiently, sustainable and ecologic architecture. The build is efficiently and there are so much light, all is white, and the people work in open space. SERA is leader in sustainability. On the same day we went in Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and there they taught us some presentations on some sustainable business.
The visit to Nike was causing many expectations and certainly not defrauded. Personally, I surprised the politics of sustainability that they carry out and which are his expectations. Nike´s motto: “Maximum performance and minimum impact”. Nike is an innovation company, using Eco Materials innovation that are recycled. Nike uses these politics from the scandals of infantile exploitation from the 90´s. The tour was too much interesting because the installations are amazing.
The Wednesday was the biodiesel day, first we went to biodiesel plant, here they sowed the process and before we went to Kethe that is a business of organic potatoes. Here there recycled the oil to produce biodiesel. And then they use the biodiesel for some his cars.
Queen Bee Creation is a small sustainability business that makes bags to hand. United Bicycle Institute is a place where they teach to make bicycles to hand.
The company that more I have liked is Solar World, This company is a business of manufacture photovoltaic modules. Here the whole manufacturing process is realized: grown the grain, court of the silicon, assembly the modules, they weld the cells… They make mono and poly crystalline silicon for his modules.
These two weeks have been impressive and exhausting, I have learned very much on Portland’s sustainability. In Spain we have much that to learn to achieve that our business are sustainable.
