Open Innovation & Lead User

Nowadays innovation has changed a lot in comparison to the 60´s, specially in terms of R&D. Before this department of an company had to create new products by it´s own.

What Dr. Henry Chesbrough suggests is the term of open innovation, which combines the innovative ideas from inside one company with the ideas that could be created or improved once they get outside the company. He suggests that there should be more participation for an issue by various companies in order to achieve the best resolution for it. Nevertheless he thinks that this type of working is not just more productive but also fairer for the society and it would be the real application of the “good business”.

In the video bellow you can see how, in the opinion of H. Chesbrough, the open innovation can be applied to the issue of the climate change:

There also is an entire community that works with open innovation.

Also, there is an other man whom is a guru regarding to this concept of open innovation. His name is Eric von Hippel and he goes even further and affirms that there are two types of users of these innovative ideas: the ones that only use them as another product and the ones whom go furthermore into the issue and improve these ideas. The last category he calls them Leader Users. These users use their own innovation applied to some original ideas, and they do it for free, even if there is not a big market for the product that with their help is going to be released. They don´t only look for the monetary benefit, but they look for the solving of an issue. More on this topic you can see in the video bellow:

Eric von Hippel on Open Innovation and Lead UserFor me, whom I´m studying at a environmental aware  business school on whose wall is posted this sentence: “I´ll design my products and the in consequence by- businesses in, looking for their entire life-cycle, generating new and innovative models of business, based on an circular and regenerative economy ”, this means a lot because we are pushed to be more innovative and to improve day by day for a better world because anyone can be an innovative person.
