Enterprise Resource planning, or ERP, manages a company´s resources via software system. ERP is designed to promote smoother, more efficient work flow among all parties, both internal and external, of a given corporation.
The main advantage is to increase productivity by using this system has access to information in a simple and time invested in analyzing situations and seek solutions. Provides complete visibility into all the important processes across various departments of an organization.
There are various modules in an ERP system like Finance, Human Resource Management, Manufacturing, Sales, Supply Chain… thus allowing adapt it to different organizations depending on their size and needs.
But to obtain those benefits should be noted that the cost of ERP, planning, customization, configuration, testing, implementation, etc may be very high. Also, the ERP deployment can take 1-3 years to get completed and fully functional.
In my opinion, although ERP provides many advantages, their implementation is a strategic decision that should not be taken lightly, as it involves significant resources (financial and human) . Therefore I believe that making the decision to implement a or not a ERP requires a thorough evaluation process of the company a and commitment from all levels.
