Team work

How does it feel to be working in a group, pressed for time, wet from the rain, blindfolded and receiving instructions in a foreign language? Thanks to the team building exercise of last week, I now know the answer. Though it might come as a surprise to many, I must say it feels great!

Of course, to stand under the rain blindfolded can never be fun on its own, but do it in a group of some energetic people, and suddenly, the competition turns into an adventure! While the group had only one official leader, everyone played an important role. In fact, when communication in Spanish and English became hard to understand, my group mate and I spoke in Russian, which I then translated into English for anyone else still lost.

Another interesting thing, the haka! Who knew that a small cheer my friend taught me in middle school will come in handy during my Master’s program? Best of all, I had a team that was not afraid to tap into their cheer-leading side and sing with me in English.

In the end, although my team didn’t walk away with a prize, we walked away with something better- new friends, a bonding haka and good memories for life!
