Climate Change: The new religion?

What is climate change?

Is it the reason why everybody is talking about renewables? Is it the reason why environmental disasters happen more often? Is it a billion people underfed worldwide? Is it a crazy theory invented by the Chinese?

Is it the first hint of human extinction? Is it the cause that could bring all nations to work together?

In sum, what we can all agree on is that climate change is something that makes us feel nervous, uncomfortable, or at least uneasy. Most of us do not really know what the consequences in the future will be, and this is not only because of this issues. Climate change has become visible for many people, in an era of generalized uncertainty, due to the overload of information we receive and the feeling that we are falling behind. But that is not our topic today.

The point is that we are uncertain about the future and climate change contributes to this. If it makes you feel better, companies have this feeling of uncertainty too; governments have it, the UN, the pope, Stephen Hawking; everyone knows that they do not own absolute answers; that they could be wrong.

This is a good thing! Now many old structures and processes are being analyzed, measured and optimized; this means that we are doing things that were never done before (the last economic crisis greatly accelerated this process); this means that new voices are starting to be heard. Like Kailash Satyarthi (Noble peace prize 2014) who frees children from slavery and is now asking companies to start controlling their providers, many of who still use child labor.

The paradigm of our era is still to be unveiled. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: climate change is an opportunity to try new things.
